Sistema Kingston is a community-oriented, intensive after-school music program for elementary students, dedicated to fostering positive social development through the pursuit of musical excellence. Sistema-inspired programs are active around the world.
As a member of the Sistema Canada Network, Sistema Kingston is committed to expanding access to meaningful music learning and participation for as many children as possible. Launched in 2015, Sistema Kingston is administratively housed within the Queen’s University Faculty of Education.
Our work is guided by the five core principles of El Sistema, founded in Venezuela in 1975:
1. Music learning has the power to support personal growth—socially, emotionally, and academically.
2. A high degree of frequency encourages sustained engagement and commitment.
3. Group-based learning nurtures teamwork and collaboration.
4. Tuition-free programming promotes accessibility for children who may otherwise be at risk of being left behind.
5. Making music together strengthens community.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
