Event Description

. Friday, October 19th I.M.U. presents DESERT RADIO w/ THE MATINEE & SICK DAYS @ The Bourbon, 50 West Cordova . Doors 7pm - Purchase advance tickets online at http://www.imuproductions.com/tix

DESERT RADIO's original combination of Americana, Classic & Southern Rock is the soundtrack of a road trip to Juarez in a '68 Dodge where Merle Haggard, The Who and Elvis Costello all play on the mix tape stuck in the dashboard deck. A few years ago, old friends Scott (Evil Roy Slade) and Patrick (Powerman 5000) were looking for an excuse to hang out, drink lots of beer and write some great, country-flavoured rock 'n' roll. One thing led to another and they soon found themselves playing shows and recording tracks with the help of friends Kevin (Anthill) and Judd (Rose Chronicles). "February Day" (from their soon-to-be released debut album) recently became the number one ranked Americana genre song in the history of garageband.com, leading to features on Budweiser.com as well as NASCAR's use of the track in a Speed Channel video tribute to Dale Earnhardt Sr. that was broadcast throughout North America. http://www.myspace.com/desertradio

The MATINEE is emerging as one of Vancouver's finest songwriting teams. Blending a passion for fine ale and finely-crafted tunes, Matt Rose and Matt Layzell have combined to offer a unique sound that is quickly attracting both national and international audiences. Matt Layzell has spent over seven years playing countless shows across the country as lead singer of the successful Vancouver rock group Ten Ways From Sunday. Matt Rose has been playing guitar and writing songs for over a decade in noted Vancouver rock/country band Fera, The Matlocks, Jeff Johnson, TwinCity and Day Release Program. Together, the two Matts write songs that paint pictures of empty bottles and broken hearts, broken bottles and empty hearts... and maybe the odd unpaid speeding ticket. Now with 'Pukin' Pete Lemon on drums and Aaron 'Enron' McKinney on bass... their collection of songs has come to life. With their first full-length album out now, it's show-time for The MATINEE! http://www.myspace.com/thematineebandmusic
