Slow Wave Saga is a three-piece alternative rock/metal act featuring Erik Leonhard (vocals/guitar), Mike Slater (drums), and Mark Slater (bass). The Vancouver based rock group was formed in 2010 by long-time musical collaborators, Leonhard and Slater. Having recently left their previous groups, the two set out to create a new project: one that would represent their dynamic and shifting musical interests, as well as their personal and professional aspirations.
This drive to grow and create led to a series of self-produced demos recorded at Harbourside Studios. The experimentation found throughout these tracks ultimately came together in what is now Slow Wave Saga.
The name Slow Wave Saga is a reference to REM-sleep (Slow-wave sleep), the stage of sleep in which we humans experience vivid dreams and nightmares. Due to the dark and often dreamlike content of the groups music, this title seemed appropriate.
Beginning at last to hone-in on a distinctive sound, the group took steps to complete the group.
Having witnessed his talent in "Maya" (a time-bending Vancouver prog-rock act), Mike asked his younger brother Mark Slater to join Slow Wave Saga. Bringing his math/prog style into the mix, the musical tripod was thus completed.
Now armed with a stacked repertoire, and a full line-up of members, the group entered into a deal with indie label Maximum Music Group. This resulted in the production of 3 new songs at Harbourside Studios. Following in the spirit of their previous demos, the band chose Mike Slater to produce this new EP.
Although accessible online, these tracks are available on a compilation disc Sessions Vol. 1 (Hit Records/Maximum Music Group/EMI).
Slow Wave Saga is now, as always, continuing to create an ever larger repertoire of new music, and striving to reach new audiences.
