Event Description
A powerhouse collaboration of Kingston musicians: songwriter Tom Savage (TUNESDAY host! and singer/guitarist for Dead Root Revival) has joined forces with popular roots-rockers The Mill·Rights to bring the world a collection of songs filled with grit and passion and rock and roll energy, while lyrically getting right to the heart of the matter.
This project came about after years of Damien Van Johnson (Mill-Rights guitarist) nudging Savage to record the song "Good and Drunk" with The Mill·Rights, after they had performed it together at a few charity fundraisers. Tom agreed, but suggested that they record an entire album together instead. The result is "Give In To The Sound", recorded over a period of a few weeks at NOP studio in Kingston, Ontario.
With "Give In To The Sound", Savage's lyrics offer the usual heart-breakers and downtrodden tales he has become known for over the years, but they also deliver some pointed commentary on the current state of affairs in today's society.
"Welcome To Doomsday Baby" speaks to the United States' flirtation with fascism; "Sweet Dopamine" sings a lullaby for the brain that requires constant distraction; "24 Hours" laments our need to have everything right now(!) while we turn a blind eye to the consequences, and "Death Trap" longs for a time when we weren't cogs in the capitalist machinery.
Musically, this band simply rocks! With most of the tracks recorded live off the floor in one room, the raw musical chemistry is undeniable. "Give In To The Sound" will celebrate its release at the RCHA on October 24th.
Tickets are $30, or $40 with a copy of the CD included.
