Event Description
JUNO nominated Ahmed Moneka draws on his Afro Sufi heritage to deliver a joyful and transcendent mix of African grooves and Arabic folk melodies, informed by contemporary funk, soul and jazz.
Ahmed first arrived in Toronto as a refugee from Iraq after appearing in a film about gay rights. Now, reflecting on this journey as actor and activist turned musician, he leads an all-star global ensemble, drawing his audience into an ecstatic celebration of life, performing across Canada and the U.S., as well as in Colombia, Chile, Morocco and South Korea.
Ahmed’s sophomore album Kanzafula was nominated for a 2025 JUNO Award, and he has won both a Dora Award and a Stingray Rising Star Award in Toronto, along with numerous other accolades.
Ahmed is currently working with The Tragically Hip on the 2026 production of It’s a Good Life If You Don’t Weaken, a musical based on the Tragically Hip's catalogue of Canadian classics, with Brian Hill and Come From Away With Me producer Michael Rubinoff.
