Event Description
Discover the remarkable life and music of Josephine Lang (1815-1880), one of the most celebrated female song composers of the 19th century. Once forgotten, Lang’s work is now enjoying renewed recognition thanks to the efforts of modern scholars.
In this special lecture-recital, UVic Distinguished Professor Emeritus Dr. Harald Krebs, Sharon Krebs, and Dr. Anna Magdalena Bredenbach (University of Erfurt, Germany) will illuminate Lang’s story—Bredenbach focusing on her early career in Munich (1815–42), and the Krebses exploring her later years in Tübingen (1842–80). Each talk will be interwoven with live performances of Lang’s songs.
Performers include Anne Grimm and Kyron Basu (voice faculty, UVic School of Music), alto and UVic alumna Deanna Sills, singers from the Young Choristers of Christ Church Cathedral, and pianist Harald Krebs.
