Event Description

Have you ever wanted to play some of your favorite songs? Jam with friends or start a band?

Based on feedback and requests from community and past learners, we're hosting another set of three 7-week workshops for beginners at the Oaklands Community Center this fall.
All 3 workshops are focused on making music in a small group and low pressure environment. No prior experience is required. If you do not have an instrument, we will lend you one and help you get your own instrument for an affordable price.

The workshops offered this fall are:
- Beginner Adult Guitar (Mondays, 6-7pm, Starting September 8th)
- Beginner Guitar Ukulele (Mondays, 7-8pm, Starting September 8th)
- Parent and Child Ukulele. (Thursdays, 6-7pm, Starting September 11th)

We will learn how about chords, notes on the ukulele neck, various strumming finger-picking patterns, and how to play your favourite songs together.

The material and pacing of our gatherings will be tailored to the level, skill and interests of the participants - you get to suggest the songs we learn!

If you do not have an instrument please do not worry – Instruments will be provided for the first session, along with instructions of where and how to rent/purchase your own.

Pricing:
Adult workshops: $20/hour for a duration of 7 weeks = $140 CAD
Parent and Child workshops: $30/hour for a parent and child duo for a duration of 7 weeks = $210 CAD

Your Instructor:
Arkady has lived in Victoria since 2015. He studied guitar performance at the University of Alaska and music history at the University of Victoria. His favorite Genres include folk, jazz, bluegrass and fingerstyle. He has been teaching in Canada and abroad for over 20 years.
Arkady performs as a bassist with Victoria based East European folk band Bucan Bucan and the Horsetail Bandits Trio. Since 2015, Arkady has also performed on bass, guitar and uke-bass with various jazz bands in the Anchorage (AK) area, gypsy jazz group Swing49 and the Chad Meyer Trio.

Through his music teaching business, Sunflower Music School, (http://www.sunflowermusicschool.ca) Arkady offers private and small group instruction in ukulele, guitar and bass to learners of all ages and all levels. Arkady strives to create a supportive, fun environment for learning which is tailored to students’ needs, knowledge and interests.
