North America is bound to fall for the charms of The Magic Numbers. Already a mega-hit in the U.K., the quartet--two boys, two girls, exquisite 3-part harmonies and irresistible melodies--is one of the most talked-about new bands in years.
The Magic Numbers have been nominated as ”British Breakthrough Band” at the Brit Awards and “Best New Band” at the NME Awards. Their self-titled debut has been nominated for a Mercury Prize, and the British act was chosen as “Best New Band” last year by Mojo magazine. The song "Love Me Like You" was voted "Soundtrack of the Year" by Virgin Radio, and The Magic Numbers spawned three top 20 singles in the U.K. charts while the record itself went platinum after spending 20 weeks in the U.K. Top 30. As if that isn't enough, the band was selected by U2 as support at two European stadium gigs, and played with Brian Wilson last summer.
The group has already begun making inroads on this side of the Atlantic--a full house greeted The Magic Numbers' Vancouver debut at Richard's on Richards last year, a show that became one of the most-talked-about, you-had-to-be-there events of 2005. The band's return is sure to be even more successful, for few can resist their brand of pop music after hearing even one perfectly crafted Magic Numbers’ gem.
