Event Description

The J.F. Youth Film Night is a one-night event in Kingston that showcases local youth-made films. It gives those 30 and under an opportunity to screen their work and connect with other movie fans within the city. Juvenis has held this event at the Screening Room and The Broom Factory over the years, and we’re excited to announce that it will be returning again for the 2025 festival. Last season, we showed 10 diverse short films and we hope to show even more this year. The submission form is below for filmmakers, but for film lovers- come out to support the event at The Screening Room on Friday May 2nd, 2025!

Youth Project Leader
Adele Downie
they/them

Adele is a second year Computing and Film student at Queen's University. They have been involved in all things film and theatre since their 8th grade year. In the theatrical world Adele was the head of their highschool’s stage crew, helping to put on countless events and assemblies throughout their time there. They have been a part of the Dan Exposition Project and Queens Musical Theatre in various sound roles, helping to put on QMT’s The Prom and DEP’s 2023-2024 showcase. Additionally they have been a volunteer for Canadian Stage’s Dream in High Park, aiding them during their 2021 and 2022 seasons. On the film side, Adele has been a part of Queen’s Television for two years, working as a sound operator on their 2023-2024 film and editor for their 2024-2025 year. They are a member of Bader Lane Productions as a writer, with a film currently being developed, and have volunteered at the Inside Out Film and Video Festival. Apart from their interests in theater and film, Adele has a love of video games, TTRPGs, playing the guitar and music.

Griffen E. Penney
He/Him

Griffen is a writer and director, with experience as a cinematographer, producer, and editor as well. Penney is a graduate of the Media and Performance Production program at Queen's University, graduating with Distinction. He founded the film production club, Bader Lane Productions on Queen's University Campus. Through the club, numerous films have been produced, one of which was accepted to the Reel Out Film Festival. So far he has made 7 films; 3 documentaries (-Ology: The Study of Squirrels, The Death of VHS, Legacy: Bader Lane), a noir (King's Town), a comedy (The Guy), a drama (Caring About the Character), and a horror short based around a feature script (Other). Griffen now works for Kingston Film and Media and is eagerly pursuing his production career.
