Event Description
Codex
Codex is named after Leonardo Da Vinci’s 15th century manuscript about future inventions. Conceptualized by Luca Hiroyuki d’Addario, the idea of this musical studio project was to break new ground and take contemporary music to a new plateau. As a source of inspiration, the band which includes Luca d’Addario on acoustic/electric guitar-synth and vocals, Avi Iyer on drums and percussion, Luke Vajsar on 5 string bass/vocals, and Sarah Gurney on violin/vocals, fuses a variety of musical styles to call their own. This futuristic hybrid of jazz breaks, folk, rock, ambient, trip-hop, and drum’n’ bass, has made Codex one of the most provocative independent acts coming from the Toronto, Canada music scene. Being the first Canadian artist to independently release a trip-hop-rock-jungle recording on 12″ vinyl, “The Codex Remixes”, Codex also became one of the first Canadian acts signed to Dave Allen(Gang of Four, Shreik back) of LA-based World Domination Recordings label, which then internationally re-released their Canadian debut 12”vinyl along with their first self titled, ‘Codex’ CD. With a library of sorts built on the foundation of various CD and vinyl releases as well as writing for film and television shows (HBO’s ‘Sexbytes’, Chum Media’s OOhLaLa, and the MMVA – Much Music Video Awards), Codex are currently recording and performing new material for an upcoming 2024/2025 release. As a Canadian band, Codex are determined to represent the new sound of music from Canada, always keeping an eye on the past, but most certainly always looking towards the future.
