Throughout the history of hip-hop, the true measure of an MC has been based on two main factors - the strength of his microphone skills and the depth of his posse. The encyclopedia of rap is packed with the tales of legends like Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five; Doug E Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew; Notorious Big and his Junior M.A.F.I.A.; and Dr. Dre and the Death Row camp of all-stars. Now, with his solo debut Prepare For Impact, Tom Green returns rap to it’s purest form by dropping rhymes as potent as nuclear bombs while flanked by the mighty Keepin’ It Real Crew.

Those familiar with the roots of Tom Green know that as a teen in the early ‘90s he was a founding member of Canadian rap unit Organized Rhyme. In the course of their short career, the group released a major label album titled Huh!? Stiffenin Against The Wall; toured with international breakout jazz-rap innovators Dream Warriors; dropped the hit single “Check The O.R.;” and even earned a 1992 Juno Award nomination. Mysteriously, after that one record, the unit quietly disbanded and Tom seemingly hung-up the microphone to pursue what would become a wildly successful television and film career.

However, as any true school MC who has felt the rush of spitting lyrics in front of a crowd will tell you, giving up the craft of rhyme ain’t that easy. So, while inhabiting the mainstream media spotlight as the host of the TV hit The Tom Green Show and in big screen flicks including Road Trip and the upcoming Bob The Butler; Tom was busy behind the scenes in his home studio inking lines in his rhyme book and manipulating funky beats from the sampler. With a forum to keep his skills up to par while still remaining on the down low, Tom waited for the perfect opportunity to again make a run at rap domination.

Kicking off a chain of events sure to become a fabled chapter of hip-hop lore, Tom hired DJ EZ-Mike (a.k.a. Mike Simpson of super-producer duo The Dust Brothers) to score a flick he was writing, directing and starring in called Freddie Got Fingered. EZ-Mike’s resume included working with hip-hop luminaries like The Beastie Boys, Biz Markie and Young MC, and there was an immediate chemistry between him and Green. “Tom gave me an Organized Rhyme cassette a few years back and I was shocked by his rhyming skills,” recalls EZ-Mike. “I knew that Tom was a B-Boy at heart - I could tell from the O.R. cassette that when it came to hip-hop.

Quickly clicking as friends, the pair continued to hang out after the film wrapped. One day, while sitting around Tom’s crib discussing hip-hop; a revelation was made. “We just looked at each other one day, and said ‘Let's make a record’,” Tom reveals. “So we did.”

When the record was nearing completion, Tom decided to take the unfinished album on the road to preview the music for the legions of Tom Green fans. So, in the spring of 2005, rap fanatics got their first taste of the hip-hop magic possessed by the Tom-assembled Keepin’ It Real Crew. Dubbed the “My Bum Is On Your Lips Tour,” the five city jaunt was the formal introduction to the K.I.R.C. – Tom Green, DJ EZ-Mike, pro-skateboarder “Playboy” Jeremy Klein and MC Shawn Anthony. True to the hip-hop super-posses of yesteryear, The Keepin’ It Real Crew was quick to display its collective power to keep the crowds amped.

“The Crew came together pretty naturally, and everyone has their distinct role,” explains Tom about the soon to be legendary posse. “Without question, “Playboy” Jeremy Klein delivers the hype. DJ EZ Mike brings beats, cuts, and he is also our enforcer when unwanted guests won't leave our hotel room. Shawn Anthony is irreplaceable – straight up. MC Bones (a.k.a. myself), well… I like to write rhymes and act like an asshole.”

During the teaser tour, the K.I.R.C. tore through London, Hamilton, Barrie, Kingston and Ottawa with what was undeniably one of the largest stage spectacles in rap history. The Crew kept the masses in check by dropping fat rhymes over top of booming beats, while flinging stuffed animals into the crowd; cooking scrambled eggs to be handed out to fans from the side of the stage; downing obscene amounts of Jagermeister; and bringing actual Hooters waitresses clutching steaming platters of wings onstage during the track “I Like Hooters.” Luckily for those who couldn’t hit one of the shows, a camera crew tagged along for the entire tour and a DVD featuring backstage antics, live performances of album cuts (including the lead single “Teachers Suck”, and general road mayhem is included in the Prepare For Impact package.
