Event Description
Featuring the legendary pianist and vocalist Ms. Louise Rose, bassist Joey Smith and drummer/vocalist Kelby MacNayr, the Great American Songbook Trio is a tour de force of jazz.
Celebrating the limitless possibilities of melody, harmony and rhythm, the trio brings to life some of the classic compositions of the Great American Songbook with heart, soul and the in-the-moment essence that has earned them an international reputation
Ms. Rose draws on her incredible personal musical history - including studies under the great Oscar Peterson, Duke Ellington and Todd Duncan (Porgy) and performance with Ray Charles, Ray Brown, Ella Fitzgerald and many more - to share the practice of authentic music making, personal expression and human communication that brings this art form to life.
Bassist Joey Smith has toured the world with the GLenn Miller Orchestra, the Marc Atkinson Trio, the Great American Songbook Trio and more! A first-call bassist on the West Coast for more than 20 years and an in-demand guitarist, arranger and educator, Joey Smith is at the top of his craft.
Drummer/ vocalist Kelby MacNayr has shared the stage with jazz luminaries Terrell Stafford, John Clayton, Larry Fuller and more! Equally at home in elegant trio settings to raucous big bands MacNayr makes his focus the spirit of the music. His own Kelby MacNayr Quintet features a gorgeous blend of jazz and world-music influences to create a sound truly his own. Featuring the legendary line-up of saxophonist Phil Dwyer, trumpeter Dan Lapp, pianist Miles Black and bassist Tom Wakeling, performances by the KMQ are not to be missed!
