Event Description

After the July debut performances of Noah Pred (performing live ambient) and Ivory Towers, Wonderment returns with a line-up made up entirely of performers working with modular synthesis:

CINDY REICHEL DESMARAIS - Seattle
Cindy is one of the the West Coast's foremost synth pioneers, opening the first modular synthesis boutique in the Pacific Northwest, Patchwerks. Cindy also runs workshops on modular synthesis and DIY synth building. While her productions are diverse, she is no stranger to playing in a park environs, having performed at Seattle's Volunteer Park Conservatory in the indoor botanical gardens.

RICHARD QUIRK - Qualicum Beach
Originally from the Isle of Man UK, Richard Quirk has been releasing music under his own name and with the bands The Chasms, Sandfingers and Twice Dead, since 2011.

THE SOLOW - Ucluelet
The SoLow is Ucluelet's Ian Kennington, whose synth laboratory has been broadcasting modular experiments for several years. His live ambient set evokes all the right vibes of classic chillout music.

ROZEK & BAVEN - Victoria
No strangers to the Victoria scene, Chris Rozek has been into modular synthesis for over a decade, having built his own semi-modular synth and an ARP-2600 in recent years. Chris' involvement in electronic music and sound design go back to the early 1990s Toronto electronic music scene and he has released on the Toronto labels Switch and Revolver Canada. Baven is also no stranger to the Victoria and West Coast music scenes, with deep involvement in the house and techno scenes and in recent years producing music and branching out into modular synthesis.

This event takes place in Banfield Park and would not be possible without the support of the City of Victoria, the Capital Regional District, the BC Arts Council, Long & McQuade Victoria, and Metropol Industries. Please pack-it-in, pack-it-out and be mindful of the CRD prohibition on smoking in public parks.

Wonderment is designed to be accessible. We don't use a traditional stage as we encourage those who are curious about modular synthesis to watch the artists from up close and ask questions about their equipment and process after their performance.
