Event Description
Terry Robb is one of the top acoustic blues guitarists of our time. His signature fingerpicking style has earned him international acclaim and world-wide recognition by music critics, audiences and his own peers. Incorporating elements from the Mississippi Delta music tradition, ragtime, country, swing and free jazz, Robb has built a unique blues sound that has made him a legend in his prolific music career spanning more than four decades.
The multitude of awards Terry has received speaks to his seminal talent as a blues guitarist. He has been inducted into both the Oregon Music Hall of Fame and the Cascade Blues Association Hall of Fame. He single-handedly defined the Muddy Waters Award for Best Acoustic Guitar, winning the honor 19 consecutive years, from 1992 until 2011. Upon his retirement from the competition in 2011, the award was named the "Terry Robb Best Acoustic Guitar" Muddy Award to honor his landmark contricutions to blues music.
Terry was born in British Columbia, raised in the United States and currently resides in Portland, Oregon. He achieved greatness at an early age, performing with Ramblin' Rex of Frank Zappa / Captain Beefheart fame, Canned Heat's Henry Vestine and steel string guitar icon John Fahey. At the age of 24, Robb produced and played accompaniment on Fahey's 1984 release "Let Go", which received a four-star review by Rolling Stone and let to numerous subsequent collaborations for which Robb served as Fahey's producer and session guitarist.
With more than 15 releases under his name, Robb's recordings feature many award winning collaborations. He has toured internationally sharing the stage with such artists as Buddy Guy, Steve Miller, BB King, Joe Cocker, Leo Kottke and many more all-stars. - www.terryrobb.com
Opening this exciting evening of music will be The Blue Hearts: Mark "Westcoast" Comerford: Guitar & Percussion, Vocals and Big Hank Lionhart: Lead Vocals. Mark and Hank are both members of Uncle Wiggly's Hot Shoes Blues Band. Although the Blue Hearts is a new thing for them they bring a ton of experience in the Blues with them. In 2015 they went to Memphis to represent BC at the IBC's in the Band Category with Uncle Wiggly's Hot Shoes Blues Band and are excited to be returning to Memphis to compete this year in the Solo Duo category as The Blue Hearts. This format allows them to get back to the real roots of the Blues with just Guitar and Vocals. Mark and Hank write and perform their own songs and stay true to the Blues. - www.thebluehearts.ca
