Event Description
Garden City Electronic Music Society returns to Banfield Park for 2017, with live and DJ'd ambient music and an 8-channel spatialized sound installation. For this edition, one of Victoria's first ambient music collectives from the 1990s will be performing and DJing throughout the afternoon along with a special live ambient performance by Psychic Pollution. This is a family friendly event which takes place beside the playground and tennis courts at Banfield Park.
Banfield Park is accessible via the Galloping Goose and Lochside Bike Trail... head south and over the Gorge Waterway and take the bike path to the right once off the Trestle Bridge. To get to Banfield Park by bus, take the #14 VIC GENERAL bus heading west from downtown.
The Vic West Community Centre will be open during this event for accessible washrooms and water fountains. Spiral Cafe, Fry's Bread and Chicken on the Run are nearby if you aren't bringing a picnic. Please "pack-it-in-pack-it-out" and remember that there is a no-smoking rule in Victoria Public Parks.
PSYCHIC POLLUTION: LIVE SET
There’s a cold neu future brewing and its nostalgic gurgles can be heard in the records of the increasingly prolific Psychic Pollution. Psych heavy and Kraut in scope with sporadic kosmiche sampling that fits somewhere in the Berlin School of electronic music. Noisy at times, but heavy in ambiance and minimalism.
Java Coffee House was a cultural hub and venue in Victoria's lower Johnson Street area where ambient music founds its home on Sunday nights during the 1990s with the "Paradigm Shift" series. Originally founded by Sabrina Dzugalo, other residents Dub Gnostic and Yoseff Samchuk rounded out the collective in 1997 - with a wide range of ambient influences from the Berlin School to Warp Records to Post-Rock to Psychedelic Dub. Sabrina moved to Toronto in 1998 to attend the Harris Institute's Audio Production program and has continued making, performing and DJing music since (mostly techno and house). This event will bring the three Paradigm residents together again for the first time in nearly two decades - featuring a mix of DJ'd and live sets - and ambient music from the 1970s to the present day.
