Long before Black Mountain, there was Sinoia Caves featuring Jeremy Schmidt. The venerable synthologist has created some of the most memorable synth soundscapes in the last few years. Most notably on BM albums In The Future and the Year Zero soundtrack. Heavily influenced by 1970's synth pioneers such as Tangerine Dream. He has been called an analog synth wizard, a cosmic voyager and even Vancouver's godfather of contemporary space rock. Former member of the Spacemen 3 influenced Pipedream, Jeremy has carved out a space of his own in the synth world. Jeremy's latest release following 2006's The Enchanter Persuaded is the full soundtrack to the indie art sci-fi creep out film Beyond the Black Rainbow. Now available through SCDistribution.
KENSINGTON GORE
http://kensingtongore.bandcamp.com/
Who doesn't like a little bloodletting? Kensington gore is the recipe used to create blood in Hammer horror films. Made up of Stephen Wood and Scott Gubbels, KG have been holed up in I.H.O.J. Studios over the last year or so putting together this 10 song sonic mutation. Some connection to keyboard-oriented Krautrock bands like Harmonia and La Dusseldorf may be warranted. The songs are a combination of spontaneous and studied with several being conceived.
Stephen Wood was the guitarist in the "classic" Destroyer line-up which also featured Jason Zumpano, John Collins (new pornographers) and Scott Morgan (loscil). Since then he has led The Battles which have included members Dan Bejar (destroyer), Jeremy Schmidt (black mountain) and Scott Morgan.
Scott Gubbels was a guitarist in the sludge bubblegum outfit Superconductor. He has also played keyboards in Capozzi Park and British Columbia Voltage Controlled Oscillator (with Jeremy Schmidt and Josh Stevenson [von bingen, jackie-o motherfucker] ).
