Event Description

. Friday, January 20th IMU presents The PARTY ON HIGH STREET, COLOURSURROUND, SK ROBOT & CHINA SYNDROME @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Doors 9pm / Purchase advance tickets online @ http://www.imuproductions.com/tix

THE PARTY ON HIGH STREET delves into the many vibrant, melodic and rhythmic colors of funk-rock, reggae, jungle grooves and lush psychedelia. The Party's songs of peculiar life-experiences, travel and the far-out are inspired by youthful energy and embellished with rocking blues grooves, jazzy feel-good improvisation and mid-song funk-downs. http//www.thepartyonhighstreet.com

COLOURSURROUND - Formed by three strung-out corporate dudes in suits who desperately needed an outlet, Coloursurround creates escapist music inspired by otherworldly bands such as Pink Floyd, Stone Roses, My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins, Dandy Warhols, Radiohead and Jeff Buckley. http://www.myspace.com/thecoloursurround

S.K. ROBOT - With three distinct songwriters, S.K. Robot creates harmonic, hook-laden infectious pop-rock that sounds at once both fresh and familiar. Formed in Vancouver by Dennis Pyo (Space Kid), Kevan Ellis (Cinderpop), Tony Koelwyn (Awkward Stage, The R.A.D.I.O.) and Michael Boegh (Bossanova, Pokiok Falls), they later added Joe Cassidy (The Liars) on guitar. Don't miss this veritable who's who of the local music scene! http://www.myspace.com/skrobotrocks

CHINA SYNDROME is a melodic power pop band that combines driving pop hooks with elements of garage rock and new wave. Their CD "Nothing's Not Worth Knowing" examines the struggle to achieve a work-life balance, the agony of micromanagement, and our obsession with work and social media at the expense of real relationships. Despite the dark subject matter, the album is musically bright as the band shows off a variety of styles from 70s Stones to angular funk grooves to psychedelia, augmented by aural surprises including pump organ, claves, Jew's harp and 80s synths. http://www.myspace.com/chinasyndrome
