Event Description
Former Intelligence Officer, a Cambridge Graduate, is on a Cross Canada Tour
Annie is an MI5 survivor.
And she's blowing a big whistle.
Her name is Annie Machon, and she used to be an intelligence officer for MI5, the UK domestic security service, closest partner of the C.I.A., and sponsor of the CSIS.
In the 1990s Annie spent six years working at the heart of the secret state. During this time she witnessed so many problems, from gross mismanagement up to and including state-sponsored murder, that she left and in 1997 blew the whistle with her ex-partner, David Shayler, on the crimes of the spies.
Annie's bravery made worldwide headlines, and the UK government was for years under pressure to hold an enquiry into her proven disclosures. However, the government chose to protect the UK’s unaccountable spy community, and used media spin to stifle legitimate debate.
As a result, she has become an author, journalist, media pundit and public speaker exposing cutting-edge issues in security and intelligence, the war on terror, press and media freedoms, secrecy legislation and governmental accountability. Above all, using her sharp insight into the world of covert homeland operations.
Her fundamental principles are the protection of human rights, openness, the sharing of information, transparency, democratic accountability, and focusing on facts, not spin. Annie makes it clear that these principles forced her to leave the multi-billion dollar covert empire and speak her mind.
In 2005, Machon published her first book, Spies,Lies and Whistleblowers. Ms. Machon was also featured in the 2006 Alex Jones film "Terrorstorm".
Come and hear her tell her story in person, unscripted. It's the sound of a whistle, blowing.
The very credible Ms. Machon will be speaking to a capacity audience at:
