. Saturday, Jan 17th IMU presents LIONS IN THE STREET, LIKE A MARTYR & The SHEEPDOGS @ PUB 340, 340 Cambie Street . Doors 8pm / Purchase advance tickets online @ imuproductions.com
LIONS IN THE STREET create rock'n'roll that is fierce and genuine, invoking vintage Stones swagger and raunchy boogie rock 'n' roll with lean attack and ass-kicking rhythmic sense. Formerly known as The Years, the Lions have shared stages with the likes of Jet, Kings of Leon, Ambulance Ltd, The Dirtbombs and The Zutons and "explode with a Stones/Small Faces onslaught that drips with jubilant passion, as well as very loud guitars played with giddy abandon" (Guitar Player Magazine). Michael Corcoran of the Austin American-Statesman extols the Lions as being "the first great band I saw this year at SXSW!" http://www.myspace.com/lionsinthestreet
LIKE A MARTYR showcase a freight train of roaring guitars, thunderous vocals and pulsating rhythms combined with shimmering harmonies, memorable melodies and the lost art of the guitar solo. Their versatile sound is influenced by the raw power of Motorhead, the stripped-down blues of Muddy Waters, the primal stomp of the White Stripes and the swagger and conviction of Bruce Springsteen. Their debut full-length "The North" is a diverse collection of powerful and memorable rock tunes that range from raucous and exuberant to emotional and reflective. Like A Martyr is an anxiety-driven neurotic, striving for perfection, drinking and laughing all the while, thumping, clapping, rejoicing, staggering and stomping to their rightful place in the rock n roll mosaic! http://www.myspace.com/likeamartyr
The SHEEPDOGS are a driving rock'n'roll band complete with head-bobbing rhythms, winding solos and deluxe three part harmonies. Hailing from the prairie city of Saskatoon, this young, shaggy rock'n'roll band have played to packed houses and toured from Banff to Toronto. The band spits out howling riffs and chiming chords fronted by powerful vocals and backed by a rock-solid rhythm section. Live highlights include opening for Matt Mays and El Torpedo, headlining a Junofest 2007 bill and performing for a crowd of 30,000 at the Saskatoon Centennial Celebration. http://www.myspace.com/thesheepdogs
