Born and raised in Kingston, Ontario, Dupel is an upstart hip-hop artist best known for his versatility and creativity. Heavily inspired by the likes of David Bowie, Mac Miller, and Gord Downie, Jean Jacques uses his music as an outlet for therapy, with topics addressing mental health and the world around him.
Starting as a poet, Dupel has been writing and releasing hip-hop for almost five years. With five mixtapes and several extended plays available online, Dupel has become applauded from being able to go from aggressive flows, to chill laments of days passed. Using alter-egos, costuming, and visual media, Dupel continues to push boundaries of the local rap scene.
A Kingston boy through and through, he shows his pride in his art by referencing various hometown landmarks, and sharing stories of growing up in the Kingston area. He hopes to not only help hip-hop gain recognition locally, but also be another artist who can represent Frontenac County on the national or international stage.
