Joel Plaskett

Joel Plaskett is a Canadian music legend whose career has spanned over three decades, cementing his place as a staple of the country’s indie rock and folk scenes. Based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Plaskett first rose to prominence in the 1990s with the alternative rock band Thrush Hermit, before embarking on a successful solo career and forming The Joel Plaskett Emergency.
Known for his clever wordplay, sincere storytelling, and genre-bending songwriting, Plaskett has earned a dedicated fanbase and a long list of accolades, including multiple Juno Awards, East Coast Music Awards, and Polaris Prize nominations. His 2007 triple album Ashtray Rock remains one of the defining Canadian releases of the 2000s, praised for its ambition and heart.
Plaskett’s discography spans solo folk recordings, high-energy rock anthems, and collaborative projects—including 2020’s 44, a sprawling four-album journey through life, love, and legacy. His music often draws inspiration from Maritime life, Canadian landscapes, and the quirks of everyday living, all delivered with a knowing wink and an open heart.
In addition to performing, Plaskett is a respected producer and mentor, running New Scotland Yard Studio in Dartmouth and championing local talent. His influence on Canadian music goes beyond his own recordings—he's a community-builder, storyteller, and artistic ambassador for Atlantic Canada.
