Neufeld- Occhipinti Jazz Orchestra
Rated one of the most imaginative large ensembles on the current jazz scene by the Los Angeles Times, Canadas NOJO (Neufeld- Occhipinti Jazz Orchestra) have been winning awards ever since they formed nearly a decade ago. The brainchild of Paul Neufeld piano and Michael Occhipinti guitar, the touring members of the ever-venturesome NOJO, including Kevin Turcotte trumpet, Jason Logue trumpet, Sean OConnor saxophone/clarinet, Dan Bone saxophone/clarinet, Scott Suttie trombone, Barry Romberg drums, Rob Clutton bass, create exciting and joyous music by drawing on a diversity of styles that reference everything from blues and funk to West African tunes and a full century of jazz. Groove-based, extremely melodic, and shimmering with unusual big band textures, high-energy NOJO are innovative and accessible in equal measure. Thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts. The music often dances on a tightrope between accessibility and insanity. - Eye Weekly
