USER materialized in that transitional year of 1996 and wasted no time snortin out the debut disk Semi-Mental Journey. Like the times, Grunge was dead; torture disco rock was flailing everywhere and the roaring 20s object status adulations where packing brains with fast feet attitude, USER was no exception and mirrored the moments. A very eclectic disc, USER explored many sides of the doomed and rabid with moments that exploded with utter discontent and then light up with a firework display of pure rebellion and symbolic tribal chants.
From Semi-Mental, the video Cyclops was released in 1997 to an international spotlight with rotation on Canada's Much Music to the PULSE in the UK and Comcast networks USA.
Inspired in the summer of 1998, User hits the studio once more and after 10 months of tracking, The LAST dAys of BEauty evolved into 11 battered songs draped in vengeance. User holds nothing back. Mixed by VINCE JONES (Dave Gahan, POD, John Bottomley, and Cowboy Junkies) and with such memorable tracks such as SLAVE, WILTED, HEART ATTACK and INVISIBLE DREAM, The Last Days of Beauty is a bang on Disc that showcases USER as a confident and ambitious songwriter.
2000 was a very sobering year; a lot of users had to run for cover. It also saw USER on his own and with no contributing members.
USER spent the wet BC winter composing the wired sea of BAIT- an eclectic
electronic album. USER traveled into the dream void to collect the threads of CHAOS and Redemption..... BAIT is a collection of questions and answers, paying your dues and struggling to create music outside the mass media factory. A disc that is great when at the bitter end of the day dreamless sleep seems like the only answer.
PISSED OFF is the defining cut while the instrumental DEVIL EYES and physical dark wave of GRABBER keep this album in the mouse trap.
In 2001 a society was split down the middle. Pagans Anarchists is aptly named for its Hedonistic and Chaotic beats. The heavy hitting rock songs were recorded at Vancouver's historic Mushroom Studio where as the recording temple of such greats as HEART, BYRAN ADAMS and BTO, the Ghosts of yesterday were raised for that West coast rock sound Once again Vince Jones was the man at board helping produce memorable songs like NIGHTMARE AND FAIRYTALE, BABY I’M FREEZIN, MUM and, EYELINER. The chaotic and unique techno songs on the disc were created at USEr MEdia Studios,
ASSASSINS, HOOK LINE & SINKER explore big beat jungle with a fine tooth comb
And were way ahead of the masses of computer dj that now proliferate the clubs scene.
The hazy summer of 2001 USER revealed, a quieter and rawer side
“Quietly, She sips her Blood” A collection of Acoustic oddities from USER outtakes and dusted off tracks from the many session USER had compiled on the down times. An acoustic collage of songs spanning six years, recorded in bedrooms, closets, bathrooms and the occasional studio; it is rich in character. Many of the tracks were recorded live off the floor. The ARC, BLEAK, DON’T HAUNT ME prominently stands out in this brooding pile of peculiarities.
Recorded during the winter of 2002, HEGEMONIC is another album in the growing collection of modern music by USER. Combining the frenetic beats of MATT VAN SLYKE, the Doom bass of Steve Nobody, ALUSER is arrow headed into turmoil. HEGEMONIC kneels into the hard rock and stumbles in the cold chains. HEGEMONIC is a real album that rocks hard from the FEALTY start to the dinner jacket Amputate until the last cymbal crash of the ominous BUGG.
A video for the album brooding rocker UNDERNEATH was directed by USER and was filmed on location in Vancouver BC is a tribute to an album that is way ahead of the pack. It can be viewed for free at Launch.com.
