Today, Kingston Ontario’s, The Gertrudes, will unleash their first album in eight years. Emergency To Emergency is out and the band has shared the final look with a new song, “Headlines.” “... Rich in acoustics, the residency afforded The Gertrudes to perform live together, readying them for a sold out release show tonight at the Hotel on Wolfe Island. “The Gertrudes are grateful for our new label Wolfe Island Records, who are significantly expanding the Kingston area arts community. Their brand-new venue, The Hotel on Wolfe Island, is certainly destined to become a world-renowned arts hub in the coming months and years. But most of all, The Gertrudes are thrilled to be performing live music again at upcoming concerts with our friends like The Weather Station, Steven Heighton, The Ropes, and Witch Prophet.” Taking inspiration from artists like Wilco and The National, The Gertrudes knit together a sound like an old-time salon party travelling through deep space. Emergency To Emergency follows three full length albums by The Gertrudes who have toured cross-country including shows like Vancouver Folk Festival, Pop Montreal, and shared the stage with artists such as Sarah Harmer, Calexico, and Ricky Skaggs. All songs are based on historic Irish and North American fiddle tunes that help provide some perspective on how our current experiences of plague and economic uncertainty are not that unprecedented after all. Emergency To Emergency continues in its endeavours to support fundraising initiatives with both the single, “Emergency To Emergency,” raising funds for the Kingston's Street Health Centre and “Parham” supporting the efforts of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
