Hello, my name is Spencer Hoyt, and I perform under the name goodcry. I am an independent, self managed artist, and music has led to some of the most special moments of my life, which is why I feel the need to create and share it.
I was born in Los Angeles, California, and moved around the city a lot as a young person, living in Glendale, Montebello, Boyle Heights, East LA, Burbank, Torrance, El Segundo, West Adams, Culver City, and Long Beach. L.A. is a beautiful mess and in a lot of ways made me who I am.
Here are some random facts about my life.
I’ve worked as a landscaper, laborer, movie theatre attendant, after school care worker, kombucha salesperson, farm worker, property manager, pizza cook, carpenter, and currently as a contractor renovating old homes. I once had a business where I built a sauna on wheels that I would tow around to different events. It didn’t work out. I also had a job where I had to work from some suuuuper wealthy people, but I had to sign an NDA and they were terrible.
The first song I remember really feeling was ‘Thieves in the night’ by Black Star, and it inspired my love of both hip hop and drums that sit right in the pocket. My dad was a big Beatles and classic rock fan so I’m not sure how I heard it, but I remember listening to it while playing FF7 on a rented PS1. I started playing drums not long after.
The first album I ever bought was ‘Relationship of Command’ by At the Drive-in.
I produce all my own music in my home studio, which is about 10’x6’ in my unheated garage. I’m currently building a slightly bigger one inside the house, where there is heat.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
