Event Description
From Lisboa, Portugal,
Minta & The Brook Trout make music about everyday things, like breakups and furniture.
Stretch, their fifth album, was released by louva-a-deus on September 2025. Definitely the most international record in the band’s history, it features Shelley Short (US) and The Weather Station (CA) as guest singers on two tracks. Minta & The Brook Trout’s songs, which tend to be short, poetic about things prosaic and profound, and good for keeping you company, are — with a few notable exceptions — written by Francisca Cortesão, who has also been known has Minta since releasing the EP You, in 2008.
Along with
Mariana Ricardo and a talented crew of other Lisboa-based musicians who are collectively known as
The Brook Trout — Margarida Campelo, Tomás Sousa (also of You Can't Win, Charlie Brown) and Afonso Cabral — , Minta has previously released four studio albums: the eponymous Minta & The Brook Trout (2009), fan-favourite Olympia (2012), slow-cooked Slow (2016), with companion EP Row (2017) and a somewhat tumultuous collection of songs called Demolition Derby (2021).
Minta & The Brook Trout have played major festivals and small living rooms, from Lisboa to San Francisco, and their music has been released and distributed by independent labels in Portugal, the US and Japan. The band is part of a solid Portuguese scene which includes acts such as Tape Junk, Bruno Pernadas, Monday, Luís Severo or Benjamim.
Sarah Greene is a Toronto based poet and singer/songwriter. Her songs are intimate, concise and idiosyncratically classic. Working in warm, soulful folk-rock ballads, Greene examines loneliness, vulnerability, and the tugging poles of freedom and attachment in her songs. She released two recordings as the frontwoman of mid-2000s Toronto indie/alt-country band the Pickups before putting out her debut solo album, Toronto Blues, in 2011. Her sophomore album, Being Real, is due out this fall.
Paul Kolinski is a Toronto-based musician and guitarist. He performs with his band Heavy On The Willie.
