Event Description
Daughters of Donbas ~ Songs of Stolen Children - a music/ human rights project highlighting the ~20,000 Ukrainian children abducted from occupied regions in Eastern Ukraine and taken to Russia.
Led by Ukrainian-Canadian singer Marichka, winner of the Amnesty International Prize, and former lead singer of Lemon Bucket Orchestra and Balaklava Blues, in collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer and award-winning journalist, Dan Rosenberg.
Marichka worked as an embedded war correspondent in Donbas, met with families affected by war crime, and the horrors stolen children have experienced in re-education camps.
Each song bears witness to a stolen name, a stolen childhood, a silenced voice.
Blending elements of art-folk, chamber songwriting, and Ukrainian folk vocal traditions, this contemporary acoustic roots project moves between original compositions and reimagined fragments of folk.
