Event Description
We want this to be an anti-colonial and liberatory space to bring your poetry, rants, speeches, show and tell, and presentations or the work of someone you admire, and share. Whether your work is for the diaspora, your people, or for yourself, it has a space at our night.
You can sign up in person at the event or fill out this form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScx9N-9yKsk3yUnKVZ-ev86ZgqgoiL9yVO1W6bQeXYVTNMGfA/viewform
Gathering agreement:
Being respectful to other people’s work: keep remarks kind, more of a discussion about people’s creative process than judgment or feedback on the writing itself as this is not a creative writing workshop.
Be mindful of time: try your best to keep your performance or reading limited to 5-7 minutes, and 10 minutes max.
Our politics: Pro-Palestine, pro-abolition, no cops on campus or anywhere, no transphobia, queerphobia; no racism, casteism, or colourism; zero tolerance toward body shaming or fatphobia. We make the space as accessible as possible and try to unlearn our conscious, as well as subconscious biases.
Fags Overseas: a group of diaspora and first gen immigrants working to directly challenge the colonial, racist, and queerphobic attitudes and workings within our communities, and the imperialist/western destabilization of our homes that prevents us from going back.
