Steve (S.G.) Sinnicks began playing drums at 11 and, at 15, began to play the pubs with everyone, from local artists to Canadian legend Stompin’ Tom Connors. Since transitioning to original songwriting in the late 90’s, he is now known across Canada and the US as a singer/songwriter in the vein of Nick Lowe or Billy Bragg, with a history of dissent and telling the story with words, music and solidarity.
SG Sinnicks is known as a solid yet silken voiced bard. He specializes in “working man first” songs, blended with heart felt airs and tongue in cheek fair warnings to ‘keep your head and spirits up’. He supplies just the right amount of wit, wisdom, and thought provocation, as well as a soothing and highly poetic romanticism. He can fix your off day, and light a room like a good ruler of stage, song, and story should.
SG is a fixture of Hamilton’s music scene. He has most recently, in his Toronto appearances, been joined by Blue Rodeo members Mike Boguski on piano, and Basil Donnovan on bass, but is often simply sided by Hamilton legend Randall Hill on mandolin, though he holds court fabulously, and dare i say best, solo.
The following song in particular, was observed with pin drop silence on a recent mini tour of Ottawa, Montreal, and Wakefield, qc, resulting in confirmed return engagements to all venues by demand of patrons, and jaw dropped club owners.
