In honour of the late master actor Gene Hackman, we’re holding a special screening of The Conversation. In the 1974 mystery thriller, which won the top prize at Cannes, Hackman stars as a paranoid surveillance expert facing an ethical dilemma when his recording indicates a potential murder.
Hack had plenty of great roles: Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle, Lex Luthor, Coach Norman Dale, Royal Tenenbaum … but in 2001, Roger Ebert, called Hackman’s turn in The Conversation as a “career peak.” It was written, produced and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. Hackman is surrounded by such talent as John Cazale, Harrison Ford, Robert Duvall, Cindy Williams, and Teri Garr.
