Toronto-based Jason Nunes, Michael Small and Darcy Rego have been playing together as the Meligrove Band since they were 17 years old, with fourth member Andrew Scott joining the band in 2002. Scott and Small have also put in time with Femme Fatale and By Divine Right, respectively. Now in their twenties, The Meligrove Band have spent the better part of the last five years touring Canada and sharing stages with the likes of Spoon, The Constantines, Ted Leo, Mooney Suzuki, Cuff The Duke, Dinosaur Jr and others.
Planets Conspire is The Meligrove Band’s third full-length CD. Their first two releases, Stars & Guitars (2000) and Let It Grow (2002), were both critical successes, garnering national press acclaim from Exclaim!, Eye Weekly, The Montreal Mirror, Chart Magazine and Wavelength, among others. Planets Conspire was produced by Jose Contreras of By Divine Right and recorded in different locations throughout late 2004 and early 2005. The result is an album that shifts seamlessly from raw indie rock to melodic pop to moody orchestral arrangements, inter-connected by themes of love, life and the solar system.
