Event Description
The Victoria Philharmonic Choir dances into its new season with a joyous swirl of trumpets and timpani, heralding an early start to the Twelve Days of Christmas.
J.S. Bach composed this set of cantatas for the feast days between Christmas Day and Epiphany in 1734 / 35. They tell the Nativity story from the birth of the Christ Child, through to the Adoration of the Shepherds, and finishes with the feast of Epiphany (traditionally January 6) with the visit of three gift-bearing Kings.
Peter Butterfield conducts an ensemble of 100 singers, including soprano soloist Jennifer Turner, Alana Hayes, alto, Carson Moore, counter-tenor, Felix Butterfield, tenor, Alex Chen, baritone, and in his debut performance of the story-telling Evangelist, new-to-Victoria tenor, Graeme Linton.
Simon MacDonald, violin, will lead the orchestra, which will include baroque specialists from Victoria and Vancouver.
