Event Description
Ryland’s compositions span bygone days, the here and now, and what may yet be to come, both for himself and for us all. Continuing in the grand tradition of great storytellers, Ryland filters the spirits and genius of literary giants like Kurt Vonnegut and Ernest Hemingway through the compositional templates determined by Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, or Blaze Foley.
Rarely seen on the island, it’s truly exciting for the opportunity to see Ryland live in an intimate soft seater like the VEC. Often touring internationally with his own project, and with Leeroy Stagger, Ryland’s beautiful January 2021 sophomore release, XO, 1945 is an album from the heart of it.
Lethal with a guitar in his hands, 21 year old Garret T. Willie first arrived on the scene at the young age of 10, opening the Alert Bay Music Festival before developing into a Blues guitar prodigy set to take the country by storm. Born in Namgis/Kwakwaka’wakw (Alert Bay, BC), Garret has constructed his own sound, blending together Blues, Rock, and Country-Folk that is representative of his environment - rough and tough.
Veteran songwriters and roots musicians Cluny Macpherson & Dylan Stone both have a long list of accolades and accomplishments under their belts. Now they have teamed up with multi-instrumentalist and pedal steel maestro Tyler Lieb and drummer Matt Pease whose resume spans decades of playing with Canada’s finest jazz, country and blues artists. Together they have formed Holler*, a band that explores the craft of classic country music. Holler* make damn good music that will make you want to jump in a pickup truck and get your heart broken in Bakersfield.
