Event Description
Vancouver Island Repertory Jazz Orchestra's mission is to promote appreciation of the unique art form of large ensemble jazz through authentic and historically accurate live professional performance. We want to be entertaining, educational, and inspiring for jazz fans and aficionados, performers and students.
Our inaugural concert sponsored by UJAM is:
A History of Big Band Swing
A narrated look at the beginnings through to the Golden Age of Swing.
Music by jazz titans like Moten, Ellington, Basie, Dorsey, James, Miller, Shaw, Barnet, and Goodman!
Featuring some of the best of the Victoria Jazz scene coming together in a stellar ensemble led by UJAM's David Flello.
Special guests include Al Pease on clarinet and Joe Coughlin as narrator and vocalist.
