Event Description
Victoria International Jewish Film Festival (VIJFF) Brings On The Laughter With A Feel-Good Film Festival
Sunday, June 6 to 10, 2021
The 7th annual Victoria International Jewish Film Festival (VIJFF) begins its 2021 programming with a Feel-Good Film Festival, which, running June 6-10, will be available via the VIJFF’s virtual cinema. Festival participation is by donation.
The Feel-Good Film Festival aims to create a shared experience with the cathartic effects of comedy. In addition to presenting two feature-length comedies and a heartwarming documentary, the Feel-Good Film Festival opens with specially curated stand-up comedy. Opening Night starts at 7:30pm on June 6th with National Public Radio’s (NPR) Ophira Eisenberg, a Canadian Brooklyn-based comedian, specially hosting live-streamed comedy. The evening also features: The El-Salomons, a Canadian Jewish-Palestinian married lesbian comedian couple; Jon Fisch, a well-known New York City-based comedian; and Shawn Pelofsky, whose comedy often riffs on having been one of only ten Jews in her hometown in Oklahoma.
Films can be streamed from 8:30pm on June 6th to 8:30pm on June 10th. They include: "Kiss Me Kosher", an energetic German/Israeli romantic comedy touching on contemporary issues in Israeli society, leaving us with plenty to ponder and lots of laughter; "Mish Mish", an illuminating documentary of family secrets within the untold history of the Frenkel brothers, pioneers of extraordinary Egyptian animation reminiscent of the early Walt Disney films; and "A Matter of Size", a warm-hearted Israeli romantic comedy that deals with body image.
The Spring Feel-Good Film Festival complements the VIJFF's more expansive main Fall festival, which presents seven films, narratives and documentaries.
The VIJFF is a program of the Jewish Community Centre of Victoria (JCCV).
