Event Description
As part of the Wellness Project, we are proud to introduce drop-in therapeutic art sessions at the Bateman Gallery. The sessions are free of charge and open to the community. All materials will be provided. Participants will have the use of various materials and access to the space to create what they wish, with an art therapist on site for mental wellness insight and assistance.
Non-directive creation is beneficial for strengthening identity development and emotional wellness in participants. The drop-in program is a place to express your unique creativity and find support in each other, through community, in these difficult and isolating times. The addition of an art therapist provides participants with a personal guide to assist them in uncovering and perceiving meaning and life enhancing discoveries found in their artwork and while creating.
COVID safety rules:
There will be a maximum of 4 people in the space, with socially distanced tables for artmaking.
Participants will each be provided with a personal “grab-bag” of materials to use for the session (pencils, coloured pencils, pastels, charcoal, glue, scissors etc.) when they arrive. Once materials have been used they will be set aside for cleaning and quarantine.
Participants will be allowed to stay up to 30 minutes.
Contact tracing will be mandatory at sign-in.
Participants:
All ages are welcome. No art experience is necessary! We strive to meet you where you are at by taking an inclusive, non-judgmental and non-directive approach to artmaking – which means that you get to choose the art materials and direction that your artmaking takes. We are mindful of gender, sexual orientation, ability, age, race, spiritual beliefs and family situations. All are welcome and encouraged to attend! Our facilitating art therapist, Kaitlin McManus, promotes mindfulness in creation and displays unconditional positive regard, assisting and guiding you to access self empowerment and compassion for yourself and others in our community.
The sessions will run twice weekly: Tuesday evenings from 4:00-7:00 pm and Thursday mornings from 8:30-10:30 am. No appointment is necessary. Please sign in at the desk when you arrive.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
