Karel Roessingh & Joey Smith with special guest Mary Byrne play Birdsong in the Parkade
Very special guest flutist (or flautist, depending upon the amount of attitude) Mary Byrne joins pianist Karel Roessingh and bassist Joey to play selections from Karel's well-received and successful recording Birdsong in the Parkade, an album of music based on bird songs collected on a cross-Canada camping trip, and recorded on a Steinway grand in the lowest level of the parkade right next to Hermann's. The group will also play a couple of treasured jazz/classical flute pieces from the 70s that Karel has been itching to perform for many years. And there will be a musical bird identification contest with prizes! Mary, PhD is a highly respected teacher (she served 12 years as Chair of the Camosun Music Department and many years as artistic director of VCM's summer flute academy and workshop) and performer, both as a solo recitalist, with many chamber ensembles and with the Victoria Symphony and Sidney Classical Orchestra.
