Event Description
“While bossa nova never disappeared from Brazillian music, Mr. Faraco wants not only to revive it, but to extend it.”– The New York Times
Paris based for the last 20 years, Brazilian master acoustic guitarist/singer-songwriter Márcio Faraco crafts songs in the samba, bossa nova, baião, and choro traditions of his homeland while throwing in dashes of Portuguese fado, African and Cuban rhythms, and most recently, chanson. He seamlessly finds the delicate balance between simplicity and complexity, tradition and originality while winning over his audiences with his undeniable charm and utter virtuosity. While his music draws likely comparisons with the Brazillian masters – Chico Buarque, Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso, and João Gilberto – Faraco’s delicate guitar work sets him apart. With a soft voice that echoes his beloved countryman João Gilberto and jazz hero Chet Baker, Faraco is a quietly enthralling performer.
Faraco’s eighth and latest record, Cajueiro, fuses the Brazillian tradition with the gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt.
After Faraco’s last appearance in Victoria at JazzFest in 2003, he returns with fellow Brazillians Gerson Saeki bass, Julio Goncalves percussion and French accordionist, Lionel Suarez.
