In July of 2013, I felt the time had arrived to record and produce my own album. I enlisted the aide of studio engineer, multi-instrumentalist, and owner of Poplar Sound Studio, Jayme Langen. We recorded our first track ‘Hold Me On’ in a three-day session which not only produced surprising results from the song, but also cemented our collective wish to forge ahead with the next seven tracks. However, I lacked the funding until my wife/manager heard about FANPUSH, an online crowd-funding platform where fans donate funds to help artists create their own music. We asked fans to donate towards the recording of seven more songs and in two short weeks we had reached our goal of raising $8000. By the time the four-week campaign ended, we had managed to raise an astonishing $10,985.
I had been going through a bit of a tough time emotionally and professionally and the response helped turn my perspective around. It wasn’t the money per se that changed things – it was simply that I realized people cared about what I do… that my songs were affecting people in a very positive way. I was able to focus completely and even began writing again. Over the next five months we tracked eleven songs, trashing anything that wasn’t working, never settling until we had what we wanted.
Labour of love? Yes, absolutely, and I am proud of the outcome. Like my career there’s no certainty; of fame, of money, of anything really – I am just in it for the ride (with my gal, of course). It’s bloody scary and thrilling, dark and bright, wondrous and wicked. It’s a roller coaster ride. That’s why this album is called El Paseo – it means ‘The Ride’ in Spanish.
For physical events that happen at a specific time. For example a concert, or dance performance. If there are multiple shows, you can still duplicate your event to cover them all.
