Event Description
As a special treat Surge welcomes:
The Zolas:
There’s something happening on the west coast. Whether it’s in the air, the water, or the drugs, a pool of talent has formed around the notion that you can have your pop and eat it too, with brainy, prog-influenced weird-beards like Bend Sinister and arcane psycho-confectioners Mother Mother demonstrating that musical complexity can still be hummable. Commercial, even.
...Throw The Zolas into the picture and dammit – you might even call it a scene! Not that it’s ever been a concern to long-term musical partners Zach Gray and Tom Dobrzanski, who established their gifts for intricate songcraft three years ago under the name Lotus Child.

Rococode:
Rococode is an unfamiliar band made up of familiar faces. They strive to create music that is equal parts arty, accessible, sexy, sweet, badass, bent and beautiful.
The band is operated by Laura Smith and Andrew Braun, and aided and abetted by the likes of Ryan Guldemond (Mother Mother), Shaun Huberts (Tegan & Sara) and Johnny Andrews (Tegan & Sara).
Their debut, Guns, Sex and Glory, produced by Ryan Guldemond and Andrew Braun, mixed by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Pink Mountaintops, Polyphonic Spree) will see the light of day in early 2011.

David Vertesi:
Although best known as part of the Vancouver indie pop group, Hey Ocean!, it is quickly becoming clear that David Vertesi will not be restrained by the straight jacket hold of a single genre, band or sound. Having toured coast to coast countless times, his range is as varied as the artists he collaborates with: from Ontario’s underground rap sensation Shad K and indie-rock veteran JoseMiguel Contreras (By Divine Right) to BC’s indie-pop songstress Hannah Georgas and the over the top garage-synth antics of Topless Gay Love Tekno Party.
