Event Description
Mexico City's Maskatesta is a talented, high energy ska band that have been tearing up the tour routes all over Mexico and Central America. In 2006 they recorded their first record, "The Maskatonian All Star & Friends." The record became an essential part of the ska scene in Mexico and spurred other compilations with bands such as Panteon Rococo, Inspector and Salon Victoria - the latter of the two played at Victoria's 9th Annual Ska Festival.
In August 2008 Maskatesta was invited to record their second album "What do you Want Me to Say to You?" in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The album included collaborations with members of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs and Karamelo Santo.
Friday, July 10th is set to be one of the busiest days of the festival as there are three shows. But by this time, if you've already attended the other three shows and two workshops that would have occurred by the time this show happens, this is the perfect
Victoria BC Ska Society is proud to host Dread Daze from Los Angeles, California for the first time on Victoria's 10th Anniversary Ska Festival.
Dread Daze will have you California dreaming with their uplifting mix of reggae, hip-hop, soul, and rock. The musicians have performed with Steel Pulse, Beres Hammond, Arrested Development, Fishbone, Half Pint, and Mikey Dread, among other notable reggae heavy weights. Dread Daze proves that the spirit of one love and equality is best served over fresh riddims and rhymes.
Finally, Greg Crowe and Scarlet Union (formerly Greg Milka Crowe) will be representing the Winnipeg ska massive in a large way. This will be the band's second appearance on Victoria's Annuual Ska Festival (their other performance was at Victoria's 5th Anniversary Ska Festival opening for Jamaica's ska founder Strangejah Cole among other world-wide ska acts such as Dr. Ring Ding, Califfo de Luxe and Eastern Standard Time. Greg Crowe's song writing and ska/rocksteady sounds are awesome for chilling out in the sun and having a brew. And the performance will round out a perfect afternoon following the festival's Latin/Reggae Mash up and Reggae After Party the day before and will serve as the perfect prelude to the Slackers show a mere hour after this show!
