AN EVENING OF FINE WINE AND EXPERTLY PREPARED SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD
Local and sustainable are culinary buzzwords that speak volumes about promises we make to our bodies and our planet. From the crafting of fine wines from locally grown Okanagan grapes to responsibly enjoying the ocean’s bounty, we have the opportunity to make informed choices that are still absolutely delicious.
On Wednesday, June 4, Haro's Restaurant + Bar and Executive Chef Gordon O’Neill will welcome Ingo Grady, Director of Wine Education for Mission Hill Family Estate Winery and the Vancouver Aquarium’s Mike McDermid to present an entirely Ocean Wise™ dinner accompanied by Mission Hill wines. Chef O’Neill has developed a menu that highlights fresh, sustainable west coast seafood expertly paired with Mission Hill prestigious Reserve and Special Lot Collection wines. Dinner is $95 per person, including taxes and gratuity.
McDermid heads up the Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise initiative, a conservation program created to help restaurants and their customers make environmentally friendly seafood choices. He will be on hand to discuss the program’s impact on the natural marine environment. Ocean Wise has been running since 2005 with well over 100 partner restaurants throughout Western Canada.
With the promise of late spring breezes overlooking the stunning waterfront, the evening will begin on Haro’s seaside terrace. Crisp white wines and delectable seafood platters will be set against a backdrop of sweeping ocean views and live jazz guitar stylings by Gary Theal. Guests will move into the dining room to be seated for the remaining five courses. Guests are encouraged to make a night of it by booking a room at The Sidney Pier Hotel & Spa for an additional $169, including a full gourmet breakfast for two. Overnight guests will be welcomed by a Chef’s amenity and bottle of Mission Hill wine to toast the evening or take home and enjoy later.
