CR Avery
Avery, who was born in Ontario, performs both solo and with a four-piece band. He has also
performed as part of Tons of Fun University and The Fugitives. His performances incorporate
spoken word poetry, beatboxing, harmonica, keytar, piano, and more recently acoustic guitar.

Avery has developed a reputation for being an exhilarating performer. He rarely leaves the
stage without being bathed in sweat. Avery's song style has been compared to a combination
of Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Tom Waits. He is the author of four hip hop operas, an
energetic style of theatre informed by the stories and rhythms of the streets.

Avery has averaged over one hundred performances per year for the past five years. His main
project is The C. R. Avery Band, which consists of four key members: Avery, on vocals,
harmonica, keyboards, and beat-boxing, Noah Walker on guitar, Paul Surjadinata on bass
guitar, and David "Doc" Herbert on drums. Avery often performs in a poetry setting as well, at
poetry slams and poetry nights, and as a guest with other performers, such as Tom Waits, The
Be Good Tanyas, Ani DiFranco.

Mihirangi
Mihirangi performs acoustic soulful-roots and funky world-r’n’b with a rare performance style.
She creates her own band sound - live in front of the audience. Using a loop pedal she layers
her vocals into intricate harmonies with beat boxing and vocal bass lines, along with acoustic
guitar and tribal rhythms, to accompany her R’n’b infused vocals.

Currently based in Melbourne Australia, Aotearoa-born (NZ) Mihirangi was brought up in a
touring musical family. Paying homage to her Maori roots, her music is a passionate internal
journey: from danceable rhythms to lyrics evoking quiet reverie. The insight into Mihirangi’s
emotions, personal triumphs, fears and political convictions offer a refreshing perspective on
contemporary culture. Her performance is renowned as a celebrated spiritual event that is
sincere and inspiring, crafting an original rootsy dynamic sound that is deservedly attracting a
wide and enthusiastic audience. “This young woman is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.
A very brave and unpretentious solo performer, I was utterly in awe of her originality and
creativity.” Daniel Stapper, Cheap Thrills Magazine, Melbourne.

Mihirangi has enjoyed an extensive international touring career that has included concerts at
Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Womad and Amsterdam Roots Festival. She has performed with
artists such as Michael Franti, Lee Scratch Perry, John McCutchens, Vika and Linda Bull,
Ganga Giri, and The Waifs. She was a member of award-winning a cappella group Akasa and
acclaimed Aboriginal vocal group The Stiff Gins.

Mihirangi’s first solo full length album “Kulcha Nation”, released in April 2006, expresses the
warm vibes and sounds of her live concerts; her a cappella vocal strength being the highlight.
Representing her pride in her Maori culture “Moemoea Reka” (Sweet Dreaming), released in
2004, is Mihirangi’s first EP of contemporary Maori originals; sung in the Maori language with
traditional instrumentation and vocal arranging infused with World sounds including
Flamenco Guitar and African Drums with Drum n Bass.

2006 sees Mihirangi touring and performing at National and International Festivals and
Concerts promoting her new live solo show and album “Kulcha Nation”. She has been billed
for the Australian East Coast Blues and Roots Festival, the Port Fairy Folk Festival, the
Dreaming Festival and the Winnipeg Folk Festival in Canada, plus many more.
