Growing up in a black Jewish synagogue Joshua Nelson loved to sing the distinctive blend of Jewish Liturgical and African American musical styles.

Since then, his cultural and religious background and religious travels through Israel influenced him to pioneer a compelling new form of music he has termed Kosher Gospel music - Hebrew/Jewish music with a soul feeling.
