About

Moira Demorest

Moira has spent most of her life at the piano. Hailing from Kingston Ontario, she has constantly pursued a passion for empowering female voices, as she balances her careers as a musician, concert promoter, and educator.

For over a decade, Moira toured and performed with the feminist dance punk band PELT, sharing stages with Bedouin Soundclash, The Golden Dogs, Tokyo Police Club, and Wide Mouth Mason. Winning K-ROCK 105.7’s inaugural “Bandslam”, PELT also appeared at Canadian Music Week, Pop Montreal, and North by Northeast.

Co-founder of the local concert production company, KPP Concerts, Moira has produced live concerts for nearly 20 years, working with artists such as Arkells, City and Colour, Grimes, Matt Good, and Lights. Founding initiatives such as Fun House Concert Series which paired touring professional musicians with local up and coming talent, Moira most recently served on the jury of the YGK Emerging Kingston Musician Competition in 2019.

As a performer, Moira is at home on stage, combining enthusiasm for music, live theatre, and activism. Recent highlights include a production and performance of the award-winning Fringe production “Anybody Can Be Pussy Riot” plus various collaborations with anARC Theatre, Calliope Collective, Domino Theatre, and Kingston Meistersingers. As a songwriter, Moira combines inspiration ranging from Philip Glass to Laura Jane Grace; her original compositions are dynamic and fluid. Equal parts pop and minimalist piano, her piano scores echo a cinematic landscape with a rich chesty mezzo voice flying effortlessly on top. Her songs are authentic, heart-wrenching, relatable, and cleverly melodic.

Demorest’s debut independent release, “this is me being nice”, will be available in November 2020. Currently working on film soundtrack scores, and with tour dates and gallery projects slated for 2021, Moira continues to collaborate, write, and create. Next up, Moira will perform virtually as a Featured Artist at Skeleton Park Arts Festival’s Virtual Coffee House in November.
