Kacy & Clayton

Kacy & Clayton are a critically acclaimed folk duo from the rural Wood Mountain Uplands of southern Saskatchewan, Canada. Consisting of second cousins Kacy Anderson (vocals) and Clayton Linthicum (guitar, vocals), the pair have carved out a distinctive musical identity by blending traditional British folk, American roots music, and subtle psychedelic textures. Their sound evokes dusty country roads and candlelit folk clubs, rooted in the past but with an ear firmly tuned to the present.

Their journey began with a shared love of traditional music and deep musical intuition. In 2011, they released their self-titled debut album, followed by The Day Is Past and Gone (2013) and Strange Country (2015), which showcased their increasingly refined blend of fingerpicked guitar, rich harmonies, and vivid lyricism.

Their 2017 breakthrough album, The Siren’s Song, was produced by Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco), whose involvement added a raw, analog warmth and helped draw wider attention to their music. The collaboration continued with 2019’s Carrying On, also produced by Tweedy, which pushed their sound further into vintage country and 60s-influenced folk-rock territory.

In 2020, Kacy & Clayton expanded their sonic palette through a full-length collaboration with New Zealand’s Marlon Williams, resulting in the album Plastic Bouquet. The project combined their haunting harmonies and rustic tones with Williams’ cinematic songwriting and rockabilly flair, further demonstrating their versatility and global reach.

In addition to their studio work, the duo have built a reputation as compelling live performers, touring internationally and sharing stages with artists such as Wilco, The Decemberists, and Courtney Barnett. Whether performing in intimate folk clubs or larger festival settings, their music transports listeners to a place where time slows down and stories come alive.
With roots that run deep and a sound that continues to evolve, Kacy & Clayton remain one of the most original voices in contemporary folk and roots music—drawing from the past to speak powerfully to the present.
