THE MATTCOUGHLIN BAND takes you on a musical ride through bits of funky rock and roll, soulful-folky country grooves, and unrestrained, smokin' sexy vocalizations. The gigantic sound that plays in your head long after the music stops is fueled by only four men: Matt Coughlin (lead vocals & rhythm guitar), Phil O'Sullivan (telecaster), Sam Collins (electric & upright bass), and Dalton "Dizzy D" Shotwell (drums). Each member spent years at the school of their choice to harness the skills in their respective areas that now add to this professional rock & roll band.
Hailing from Tacoma and Seattle, THE MATTCOUGHLIN BAND gathered from different parts of the west. Growing up in Bozeman Montana, Matt brings his small town style to this northwest metropolis, and blows away the big city folk with a voice that is unparalleled. Matt met up with Sam Collins (Wenatchee, WA) and Dalton Shotwell (Grass Valley, CA), and formed the original MATTCOUGHLIN BAND in trio form. The three became popular quickly around Tacoma and Seattle's local bar scene when they picked up Phil O'Sullivan (Porterville, CA) to smooth out the funk with masterful guitar leads. Matt has laid down two EP's thus far; Let it Go (2004) & It's About Time (2006). Both discs demonstrate the tight and technical sound of the band, while adding the soul that people feel when seeing this great band live. Their music has led them to open for some very influential musicians such as Martin Sexton, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Storyhill, Christopher Cross, Curt Kirkwood, The Paperboys, Vicci Martinez, The Jude Bowerman Band, and The Eric McFadden Trio.
Recently Matt has been working on some solo acoustic touring to spread THE MATTCOUGHLIN BAND's name throughout the northwest, and to inspire a brand new collection of music. By mid April (2007), after Matt's "Rainy Daze of Winter Tour," the band will be back in its full form focusing on some hot new sounds for their summer line-up and preparing to lay down their first LP. A quoted "up and comer" in Tacoma's Weekly Volcano, Ginger Knoxx told her readers to "expect big things" from Matt in the future. Keep your eyes peeled for THE MATTCOUGHLIN BAND, the potential of these guys is endless.
