About

Roy Haynes Quartet

We could fill up this whole space with just the names of the jazz greats that Roy Haynes has performed with over his 60-year career. Suffice it to say that he sat in the drum chair in aid of everyone from Lester Young and Charlie Parker to Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Oh, and younger guys like Pat Metheny and Christian McBride also like the way he can kick things up a notch or two with his joyous, free-thinking approach to rhythm. A veteran drummer frequently and unfairly overshadowed by others, the eternally youthful Haynes has gotten lots of belated acclaim in the last decade. His recent recordings have been remarkable for their fire and inventiveness, and Haynes has a knack for surrounding himself with mature younger musicians whose collaborative smarts and soloing chops are impressive indeed. Please welcome a true legend for his debut performance in Victoria. Mr. Haynes will be playing with his current working band: Martin Bejerano piano, John Sullivan bass, and Marcus Strickland saxophone.

"The father of modern drumming." - Pat Metheny
