Shane Murphy is the kind of singer who feels like he’s been dropped straight out of a late-night jam session and onto the stage—effortlessly blending raw vocal grit with an easygoing charm that wins over a room in minutes. Known for his genre-hopping style, Murphy moves comfortably between blues, folk, and roots rock, weaving personal storytelling with a wink of humour and a touch of soul.

Whether he’s fronting a band or stripping it down solo with just a guitar, his performances carry a sense of spontaneity—as if anything could happen, and usually does. Offstage, he’s built a reputation as both a collaborator and a crowd-connector, someone who treats every show like a shared experience rather than a performance. It’s that mix of authenticity, musicianship, and playful energy that keeps audiences coming back for more. He’s back to bring you what you love on Friday, May 1, 2026 at The Cove Inn! Details and reservations here.

Seamus Cowan: If your music were a drink on a menu, what would it be called—and what’s in it?

Shane Murphy: Boilermaker… pint of beer with a shot of whiskey in it. A couple of those and you’re having a good time….

Q: What’s the most unexpected song you’ve ever slipped into a setlist, and how did the crowd react?

Shane: Madonna’s “Like a Virgin”. She’s the Queen…everybody flipped out!!

Q: Every musician has a “this almost went terribly wrong” story—what’s yours?

Shane: Talent Nite at my high school. Dressed up in a squirrel suit. Crowd loved it. Thought I was nuts.

Q: If you could form a dream band with any artists (past or present), who’s in it and who gets stuck being the band’s driver?

Shane: I would drive…John Bonham on drums, James Jamerson on bass, Keith Richards on guitar and Otis Redding on vocals. Would like to witness that.

Q: What’s one song you wish you had written—and what would you change about it to make it “Shane Murphy enough”?

Shane: "What’s Going On?" by Marvin Gaye. Wish I wrote it. Wouldn’t change anything about it. Perfect song!
