Cantabile Choirs of Kingston is proud to announce the launch of its 30th Anniversary Season, a milestone year that celebrates three decades of musical excellence, innovation, and community. Since 1996, Cantabile has grown into one of Canada’s leading choral organizations, inspiring audiences with transformative performances and nurturing singers of all ages.
Under the artistic direction of Geoffrey Sirett, the 2025–26 season offers a bold and diverse lineup of five concerts, reflecting Cantabile’s trademark spirit of collaboration, creativity, and vision:
Fascinating Rhythm – A vibrant season opener featuring guest percussionist Kyoko Ogoda on taiko and marimba. This high-energy program blends intricate choral harmonies with driving percussion and choreography, creating a thrilling fusion of sound and movement.
Holiday Magic – Kingston’s cherished candlelit holiday concert, featuring Cantabile’s unique blend of traditional carols and festive music from around the world.
Jigs and Reels – A spirited program celebrating Celtic and folk traditions through storytelling, song, and dance-inspired music. Cantabile is thrilled to share the stage with the legendary Barra MacNeils, one of Canada’s most beloved Celtic ensembles.
The Hobbit – Cantabile’s young choristers take centre stage in a full-scale theatrical production of Dean Burry’s acclaimed children’s opera, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved classic. With a cast of more than 140 children and youth, this epic musical adventure invites audiences to journey with Bilbo Baggins from the peaceful Shire to perilous mountains, mysterious forests, and the lair of the fearsome dragon Smaug.
Sunrise Mass – The season concludes with a luminous program for choir and strings, highlighted by Ola Gjeilo’s cinematic and ethereal masterpiece, Sunrise Mass. For this finale celebration, Cantabile joins forces with the Kingston Symphony, bringing together nearly 150 voices and full string orchestra for an unforgettable close to its 30th Anniversary Season.
“Our 30th Anniversary Season is both a celebration of Cantabile’s extraordinary history and an inspiring step toward the future,” said Geoffrey Sirett, Artistic Director. “This milestone is a testament to the thousands of singers, families, and audience members who have shaped our community over the past three decades. We are thrilled to share a season that reflects our values of artistic excellence, creativity, and inclusivity, and to invite audiences to imagine what the next 30 years will bring.”
In addition to its five-concert series, Cantabile’s 30th Anniversary Season features special events, including a Valentine’s Gala, two community sing-along film screenings of Beauty and the Beast and Footloose, and a Christmas Family Sing-Along.
